'The Happy Time'
THE HAPPY TIME

In the Battle of the Atlantic, the period from July to October 1940 was known by the German U-Boat crews as 'The Happy Time', with convoys, once detected, virtually defenceless against them. The painting shows two U-Boats passing in the Atlantic and exchanging greetings, as one heads for base on completion of successful patrol, while the other starts out on its deadly mission.
